The Practice - Jane Jenkins, PhD MA
Welcome! Congratulations for taking the first step toward seeking help, even if it is just a quick browse of my website. I am a licensed psychologist in Michigan, Washington State, and Idaho. I hold a masters degree in Mental Health Counseling and a PhD in Counseling Psychology. I practice in beautiful Ingham County, MI via telehealth and in-person soon.
My training and experience enable me to offer brief, individualized, compassionate psychological care in person or via HIPAA compliant tele mental health. I provide solution focused therapy (long-term relationships are for your close friends and family). If you are looking for that long-term counseling relationship, I am probably not the best fit for you. That said, I strive to provide a therapeutic environment that promotes acceptance and inclusion by being considerate and empathic about your personal experiences (that may be different from mine) and value system. I address a number of mental health challenges, and will work with you strive to reduce emotional distress and support efforts toward your ability to maintain your own well-being. I view my approach as collaborative, combining my knowledge with your expertise about yourself to meet your therapeutic goals.
I chose the name "Root to Rise," my favorite yoga pose, to represent my professional vision. The pose first encourages a focus on grounding one's feet strongly to the earth (I think of this as acknowledging and accepting your strengths, experiences, and vulnerabilities as a unique human), followed by rising up to reach toward the sky (I think of this as giving yourself permission and self-compassion to challenge old thoughts and behaviors to rise toward your vision of wellbeing).

About Me
I am a country kid from the Midwest turned city kid after spending some years living in the urban Northeast. I recently returned to my rural roots in Michigan after settling in the Inland Northwest for a decade. My heart and academic pursuits led me to the field of psychology, which I combined with my love for animals to study the human-animal bond in therapeutic settings as my doctoral research focus. Future plans for my practice include incorporating therapy animals and farm-based interventions as therapeutic adjuncts to assist with difficulties and their solutions through experiential discovery.
The Thing About Emotions is.....
Many folks deal (or don't) with their emotions by ignoring, minimizing, or distracting themselves from them. Emotions are the most amazing super power of the brain and are what make us "human." Emotions are communication that something needs our attention. The trouble is, we sometimes don't listen. Ever notice they just get louder? Positive or negative, ALL emotions are important. I will help you co-exist with them (you know, like the spider in the corner that you don't really want there but can learn to live with). Let's work together on it!
Treatment Focus
- I provide brief interventions (typically 20 weeks, sometimes less). I have found this to be where I am most effective and where clients make the most gains in developing lifelong healthy skills for well-being.
- The focus of my practice is to help you identify and work toward your mental health and well-being goals so you feel better. I do expect you to work hard outside the therapeutic session because that is where the most and best change occurs.
- My clinical approach reflects my training in developmental psychology meshed with evidence-based approaches to help you identify and recognize problems that are interfering with your life. Sometimes we don't recognize that unhelpful strategies learned early in life are no longer so helpful.
- I strive to provide equitable services, am DEI-focused, and support the LGBTQ+ community. Every human should be free to be their authentic self without apology.
- I utilize Cognitive-Behavioral, Cognitive Processing, and Compassion focused therapies to empower and teach skills to rethink old unhelpful thought patterns.
- I weave self-compassion into our work to encourage clients to be more accepting of themselves.
- I introduce the importance of emotions, understanding of their purpose, and how understanding what feelings are communicating helps us learn to listen to them and act in ways that are helpful for us.
- I support brain breaks (thinking can be exhausting), and show how to practice grounding or mindfulness activities that are useful.

- 15-30 minute consultation (1 time) FREE. We need to see if I am a good fit for your mental health needs.
- 60 minute initial intake and diagnostic assessment $200
- 55 minute typical session $175
- Group (TBD)
- Insurance payments accepted from Cigna/Evernorth, Premera, Regence/Asuris, BCBS, United Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, Aetna, CMS Medicare, AppleCare(WA medicaid/medicare), Molina, and Community Health Plan of WA
- Sliding fee scale for uninsured and lower income (application required)
